Every year, thousands of professionals from Ahmedabad submit Express Entry profiles for Canadian permanent residence. IT professionals from GIFT City, engineers from Chandkheda, healthcare workers, and business owners across the city are building their CRS scores — and many are leaving one of the biggest boosts on the table: French proficiency.
How French Boosts Your CRS Score
Under Express Entry, if English is your first official language and you demonstrate strong French proficiency (NCLC 7 or above in all four skills), you earn additional CRS points. The maximum is 50 points for NCLC 9+ in all four skills. In a pool where the difference between receiving an ITA and waiting another year is often 10–20 points, 50 additional points is transformative.
Which French Test Do You Need?
For Canadian immigration, you need either TEF Canada (offered by the CCIP) or TCF Canada (offered by France Éducation International). Both are accepted by IRCC for Express Entry, PNP, and Quebec immigration streams. DELF and other French certifications are not accepted for immigration purposes.
TEF Canada is generally more widely available in India and has a more predictable scoring pattern. TCF Canada has a shorter format. We advise all our Ahmedabad students on which test suits their profile during the free trial session.
What NCLC Score Should You Target?
NCLC 7 in all four skills gives you a meaningful CRS boost. NCLC 9 in all four skills gives you the maximum 50 points. Most Ahmedabad candidates at B1 level can reach NCLC 7 with 8–10 weeks of targeted preparation. Reaching NCLC 9 typically requires B2-level French — achievable in 14–18 months from scratch.
The Ahmedabad Advantage
Ahmedabad professionals tend to be analytically strong — which is a genuine asset in French exam preparation. Grammar, reading comprehension, and writing structure come relatively quickly for engineers and business professionals. The biggest preparation focus for most Ahmedabad candidates is speaking and listening — skills that require live practice with a trained coach, not self-study.
Our Recommendation for Ahmedabad's Canada-Bound Professionals
If you are currently at A2 or B1 French: book a free trial, assess your level, and enrol in our focused TEF Canada preparation programme. Most students in this range achieve their target NCLC score within 10–14 weeks. If you are a complete beginner: start with our conversational or beginner programme to build a B1 foundation, then move into TEF Canada preparation — total timeline is typically 12–18 months.
