If you have French proficiency and are targeting Canadian permanent residence, you have two main pathways: Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). Each has distinct advantages depending on your profile.

Express Entry Advantages for French Speakers

Under CRS, strong French skills (NCLC 9+ in all four abilities) add up to 50 points. This alone can push borderline profiles over the ITA threshold. The French-language streams within Express Entry are particularly competitive for profiles with B2+ French.

PNP Advantages for French Speakers

Several provinces — notably New Brunswick, Manitoba, and Ontario — have dedicated French-language streams with lower eligibility thresholds. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points, virtually guaranteeing an ITA.
